According to Wikipedia, this first tragedy from W.S. is one of his least respected – disliked by Victorians for its violence and considered by Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats author T.S. Eliot to be “one of the stupidest and most uninspired plays ever written.” But what do those old heads know, anyway, as this tale of Goth queen Tamora’s vow of revenge inciting a massive cycle of violence still breathes as bloody as it did when first gracing 1500s stages. Adapted by Stephanie Crugnola with direction by Brian Hensley, this immersive update to the source material makes the tragic story come to life in ways ye olde critics couldn’t have imagined.
