See the Light: A How-To Photography Afternoon with Will van Overbeek
When: Sat., March 28 2026
Local treasure Will van Overbeek has been capturing the beauty of Texas for decades now, starting his photography career in the Seventies at UT-Austin studying under the legendary Garry Winogrand and Russell Lee. Current NCHM exhibit “30 Wet Dogs” is a prime example of his talent at using light and shadow to bring out the life in a subject, and you’ll be inspired by these works as van Overbeek presents a session sharing some of his best tips for your own photography. Learn about framing and composition, working with your subject, choosing the right equipment, studying the light, and more techniques to take your photos up a notch. Bring a challenging raw digital file or a tough question for the expert to get some one-on-one help after the presentation. – Kat McNevins
