Sean Rowe’s deep dragging baritone contains mysteries. It can howl with deep yearning pain or swoon with a seeking wonder at the world, as the New York naturalist’s songwriting forages through darker depths for patches of light and unlikely life struggling through the soil. His songs unroll often heavy existential ballads but with an underlying tender touch in his warm, enveloping vocals. Rowe has largely laid low since the release of 2021’s The Darkness Dressed in Colored Lights, but brings an intimate 4pm matinee show to the Sagebrush amid his current tour of house concerts. – Doug Freeman
