Time for a hot take – good creativity thrives with boundaries. Add some constraints, an outside voice or two, and art blossoms. The creators of ScriptWorks, an annual scriptwriting competition, understand that principle. During their Weekend Fling writing event last fall they gave playwrights three necessary rules: someone waking from a dream, a historical figure in disguise, and an astronomical object. From the dozens of plays written, ScriptWorks now presents eight shining stars. Each is 10 minutes, each adheres to the rules, and each creates a singularly out-of-this-world experience. – Cat McCarrey
