After co-writing and -directing crime thrillers Good Time and Uncut Gems with brother Benny Safdie, Josh Safdie strikes out on his own for the first time since 2008 with Marty Supreme, a gritty 1950s sports drama loosely based on table tennis star Marty Reisman, starring Timothée Chalamet. For his Guest Selects ahead of the premiere, Safdie programmed Saturday Night Fever and Risky Business, two films centered on cocky young men with a dream, which also happen to have killer soundtracks – John Travolta twirling to the Bee Gees, Tom Cruise strutting to Tangerine Dream.
