Sarah Ferguson: “Carte Blanche”

Geometry can play tricks on our eyes. Austin artist Sarah Ferguson builds her paintings from overlapping circles, rectangles, and translucent layers of color to create an illusion of depth. Each composition pulls the eye toward a narrow vertical beam of light at its center with shifting colors and shapes that appear to expand or recede into one another. Combining minimalism, geometric abstraction, and the Light and Space movement, Ferguson turns precise arrangements of shapes into something surprisingly atmospheric. – Maryam Muliaee
