Rotten Mangos, Heavy Meddo, Juniper Berries [inside]

Since the dawn of this millennium, Bill Baird has released upwards of 50 works – under his own name or the sobriquet Sunset or yet another moniker, Morton Williams Baird, or his once Capitol Records-signed band Sound Team. Latest outfit Heavy Meddo unites the prolific song-maker and musical technologist with supremely out-of-the-box guitarist Jonathan Horne, bassist Ethan Smith, and Sound Team drummer Jordan Johns. New EP Great News spins fresh, free, and fun with cartoonishly downshifted vocals leading bouncing rocker “Tepid Ted,” while the tranquil psych of “Mirror Speech” resounds with cathedral echo voices dancing around an tasty variation on the “Under Pressure” bassline, and Horne’s chromatic guitar outbursts on “Crowd Insanity.” Choice local melters Rotten Mangos and Juniper Berries support. —1292031
