The Eighties nostalgia wave started early with this David Mirkin-directed adaptation of Robin Schiff’s play Ladies Room. Titular best friends Romy and Michelle originated during Schiff’s time at the Groundlings, with Lisa Kudrow reprising her role as beautiful airhead Michelle for the big screen. She, along with Mira Sorvino as fellow ditz Romy, have built an aimless but affable life together after crushing unpopularity during their high school years. But a notice of their 10-year reunion – and the chance to show up all their classmates via a little Post-it-related deception – threatens to rip apart these girlfriends from their permanent hip-attachment.
