A year before he boarded Titanic and two years after she angsted her way through My So-Called Life, Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes were catnip to moody, broody girls like me. In Baz Luhrman’s camp, irresistible reimagining of the Bard, they went supernova. It pains me to note this film is now celebrating its 30th anniversary. But for all its hallmarks of the era – Romeo’s wide lapels and coffeehouse-poet wet eyes, the soundtrack’s mash-up of alt-rock and bopping pop (Garbage, Radiohead, Everclear, the Cardigans) – this magnificent picture is eternal. Just like R+J, it never gets old. – Kimberley Jones
