Coming off the booze-filled extravaganza of SXSW, it’s hard to imagine that the capital city was once under Prohibition for 15 years. Americans in the early 1900s had to suffer through the failed experiment, but today we get to sit back and laugh at the whole thing courtesy of Prohibition: A Musical Comedy. The play, organized by Texas Comedies, features a live band and depicts a tale sort of based on true events. The “Wets” and the “Drys” are in a heated conflict, shown through the lens of a rivalry between a speakeasy owner and members of the Anti-Saloon League, who are set up just next door. – Joseph Gonzalez
