Poetry Out Loud State Recitation Contest

Bullock Museum
Some of Texas’ most gifted young orators will put their performance skills on display as part of the Poetry Out Loud contest. The annual competition features high school students performing poems revolving around a broad theme. Having already taken down the competition at their own school, these young poetry lovers head to the Bullock for the state finals. In celebration of the 250th anniversary of American independence, this year’s poems center around “the rich tapestry of American history and culture,” according to the National Endowment for the Arts-produced event. The winner will represent Texas at the national competition in Washington, D.C. – Joseph Gonzalez
