Doctor Sandor Stern was responsible for two great expressions of wildly radical art. First, three of his sons – Shawn, Mark, and Adam – founded L.A. hardcore pioneers Youth Brigade. Second, he adapted and directed Andrew Neiderman’s absolutely bug-nuts and warped novel Pin, a psychosexual sleazefest about a dysfunctional family and an anatomical dummy called Pin. Even for a filmmaker and scriptwriter whose career veered between Touched by an Angel and The Amityville Horror, it’s a weird diversion.
