A biopic seems like the very last thing Nineties slackers Pavement would ordain – until you see the rambling montage of a film that is Pavements. Tracing the creation of a jukebox musical, a museum exhibit, and an Elvis-style biopic starring Joe Keery, no new revelations about the California-born fivepiece are revealed, but their cult-followed legacy is celebrated in an asynchronous storyline as layered, tongue-in-cheek, and untrustworthy as their music. Made for fans, by fans, Pavements is every bit as endearingly self-sabotaging and annoyingly charismatic as the smirking underdogs of indie rock. – Caroline Drew
