Patrick Puckett

Art by Patrick Puckett/Courtesy of Wally Workman Gallery
In the sweltering summer months, it’s nice to look at art that echoes what you’re feeling. Puckett’s large-scale portraiture bursts with vibrant colors dripping in Southern-inspired splendor, a warm fever dream of defiant figures. Each subject seems calm and languid at first. But they intensely stare out at the viewer, eyes showing a vivid inner life echoed by the richly imaginative backdrops behind them. Regal and arresting, these are panels to get lost in. – Cat McCarrey Through August 3
