The Godfather Part II. The Empire Strikes Back. Terminator 2: Judgment Day. There is a small but undeniable class of films in which the sequel bests the original, and Paddington 2 belongs in that pantheon. Boasting a Wes Anderson-esque visual pizazz (think: obsessively stylized, adorably handmade), Paddington 2 has heart and humor, too. Paddington Bear (perfectly voiced, all sweet and rumply, by Ben Whishaw) goes on adventures, meets some peril (including a near-drowning that makes me cry every time), but always comes out the other end more or less the same cheerful, kindhearted, marmalade-loving chaos magnet. – Kimberley Jones
