Opening Reception: “Somos Animales Poéticos,” “On and On and On,” and “Out of Place”
When: Wed., Aug. 26 2026
While these three exhibitions officially start on Saturday, Aug. 22, they also share their opening reception date: the perfect mid-week cultural perk-up for those craving a li’l culture. “Somos Animales Poéticos” both highlights Latin American artist Cristina Velásquez’s mixture of narrative photographic & written work and celebrates the Austin premiere of her monograph from Dust Collective, originally released this past May. In Quentin Pace’s “On and On and On,” abstract pieces done in acrylic and pastel reveal influences from all over the African diaspora with “gestures toward the unseen threads that bind us.” The paintings presented by Yamin Li in exhibition “Out of Place” pull from the artist’s immigrant experience by maneuvering familiar objects through random, often chaotic visual spaces. See all three artists’ work at the reception, and check back in on Sept. 30, when they sit for an artists’ talk. – James Scott
