Subtitled A Symphony of Horror, this 1922 proto-vampire film wasn’t strictly a Dracula adaptation, but the Bram Stoker estate sued anyway. Successfully, in fact: The court ordered all prints of German expressionist F.W. Murnau’s film destroyed. Luckily, enough copies survived for this still supremely unnerving silent to influence generations of cinematic bloodsuckers to come.
