No Idea Festival day two w/ David Watson, Michael Foster & Richard Kamerman, Juan García & Bhob Rainey, more

No Idea at 22 hasn’t aged a bit – it’s still the handsome celebration of freely improvised and conceptual avant-garde sounds it’s always been. This year’s festival centers around two titans of jazz on the edge, and a young lion soon to join them. Poet/cultural theorist Fred Moten, saxophonist Joe McPhee, and bassist Brandon López lay down some soulful experimentalism in various combinations at Alienated Majesty Books and the Scottish Rite Theater. Saxophonist Michael Foster, singer Christina Carter, bassist Juan Garcia, electronicist Richard Kamerman, bassist Bhob Rainey, and guitarist/bagpiper David Watson’s Ensemble also perform at the bookstore, theatre, and/or house concerts. – Michael Toland
