Austin Film Festival continues its series of monthly screenings with a scarily topical screening of Sidney Lumet’s still painfully timely media satire. The 1976 classic won Paddy Chayefsky a Best Original Screenplay award, plus acting wins for Faye Dunaway, Beatrice Straight, and, of course, Peter Finch – whose delivery of “I’m mad as hell, and I’m not going to take it anymore” is one of the all-time great cinematic moments. However, it’s regularly misread, as Chayefsky was warning audiences about the perils of news as spectacle. Luckily, Texas Monthly and New York Times reporter Robert Draper will be on hand for a special post-screening Q&A to tear into what the film really says about our modern media landscape. – Richard Whittaker
