As part of the nature-nurturing Roots & Wings Festival, the Austin Public Library and YMCA put on a free, family-friendly fest to celebrate trees, pollinators, and autumnal enchantment. Urban Forestry hosts tree climbs, Soulshine Rhythm brings an interactive drumming session, TreeFolks brings trees to adopt, Squeaky Frog Farms gives away plants, and North Austin Community Garden hosts a scavenger hunt. But wait, there’s more! Face painting, wing painting, a live butterfly release, library displays, and more take place from 3-5, and then the YMCA gets Spooktacular started with bounce houses, trunk-or-treating, and other Halloweeny happenings until 7. It’s all free, and you can even get a free bus pass with a form found online. – Kat McNevins
