It’s probably not a surprise that my clearest memories of watching this 2004 indie coming-of-age flick are when my childhood Mormon best friend was with me. Made by husband-and-wife directing duo Jared and Jerusha Hess, there’s a specific LDR spirit running through this quirky piece from the rampant retro aesthetics of VCRs, Moon Boots, and puffy prom dress sleeves (despite the film being set in the year it released) to the mostly clean comedy that forms its bedrock appeal. (No need to swear when you can yell at a llama named Tina.) Paramount beckons all to put on their nostalgia goggles as cast members Jon Heder, Jon Gries, and Efren Ramirez accompany a screening of the feature. And don’t worry: You don’t need magic underwear to enjoy the fun. – James Scott
