Childhood sexual abuse and the traumatic scars that it leaves behind form the bedrock of this drama from the usually light & poppy Gregg Araki. Most recently making headlines for his Gen Z-skewering comedy I Want Your Sex, director/writer/producer Araki depicts the experiences of characters Neil (a young Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and Brian (The Brutalist director Brady Corbet) as separate moons orbiting the same planet. Tender, tough, and just as visually startling as any Araki flick would be, this movie is a difficult sit for the unsuspecting filmgoer. But for many, its frank depiction of CSA trauma responses make this an unconventional comfort watch. – James Scott
