This 2001 South Korean rom-com is based on a real-life blog-turned-novel by Kim Ho-sik, a guy who apparently had a thing for lightly abusive, wacky ladies. Directed by Kwak Jae-yong, the film was so popular – it was the highest-grossing comedy of all time in South Korea and a box office smash in Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong – that it was remade into a 2008 U.S. rom-com starring Elisha Cuthbert as said sassy girl. It follows a mild-mannered guy who gets mixed up with this drunken, chaotic Girl (never named) and struggles to maintain a relationship with her, but through the years destiny continues to throw them together. – Lina Fisher
