I must admit that this Hollywood fairy tale has never fully revealed itself to me – a flower still blooming even at the 25th anniversary mark. Starring the often-underutilized but truly talented Naomi Watts as an aspiring actress attempting to help a woman suffering from amnesia (the enchanting Laura Harring), events in the film and their enactors remain ever in question even after the credits roll. Lynch refused to ever explain the film’s twists & turns, and his characteristic zipped-lip on its meaning makes watching Mulholland an eternal pleasure. If you prefer your stories spoon-fed, I suggest turning off that desperation for this screening and letting the dream logic overtake you. – James Scott
