Set in the Sixties and to the sounds of mood-setting French pop, Moonrise Kingdom is the perfect marriage of kids’ adventure story and a sweet first romance. When a preteen Khaki Scout at summer camp runs away with a local girl, the whole town is mobilized to find them before a brewing storm wreaks havoc on the island. Naturally, Anderson stocks the pond with many of his regulars – including Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Edward Norton, and Jason Schwartzman – but the young paramours played by Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward ably carry the picture. – Kimberley Jones
