The scar on my knee serves as a permanent reminder of the last time I laced up a pair of skates. After an ill-advised encounter with a tree, I figure my skating days are behind me. Every Monday, however, skaters gather at the Long Center before rolling out on a 10-to-15-mile trek through Austin’s streets. Beginners beware: This ride moves at a brisk pace and expects riders to know their way around an urban obstacle course. Still, the weekly skate proves that plenty of Austinites can navigate the city on wheels without becoming part of the scenery. – Trinity Orosco
