Groundbreaking, mysterious, violent, brilliant, innovative, legendary: All of these have been used to describe Miles Davis and all of them are true. But given how many times his music changed over the course of his career, look for a whole lot of centenary celebrations of the man and his work, all of which could sound completely different from one another. Given that Water Damage plays long, repetitive pieces rooted in circular riffs and subtle changes within, this show likely celebrates the outer edges of Davis’ fusion period, which influenced all sorts of avant-garde rock bands. – Joe Gross
