BSS’s orchestral rock bursts, led by Kevin Drew; Metric’s punk-pop charge with Emily Haines; and Stars’ anthemic indie angst, surging from 2004 breakout Set Yourself on Fire, all set a tone for the decade’s Juno and Polaris awards, and carved a distinct slice of the first-wave blog band craze. – Doug Freeman
