Liz Cooper’s freshly released album New Day is a masterwork of indie contemplation, carrying a quality now expected from the singer and guitarist after more than a decade of crafting tunes with undeniable depth. Along with her former band, the Stampede, Cooper’s previous sound leaned heavily into Americana, but she still maintains a slight twang atop her confessional lyrics and floaty production that’s seemingly made to accompany a marijuana high. Oscillating between indie folk, alt-rock, and bright pop sensibilities, the Vermont-based songwriter and her band create enough wonder to leave fragments of songs lingering in the head long after the music stops. Starting the night off are the strong songwriting stylings of local alt-country singer Brody Price. – Joseph Gonzalez
