Puppets make everything better. And not just in a fuzzy, Jim Henson-toned cute way. They can create intricacy from simplicity, taking simple materials and transforming them into complex storytelling tools. In Light (光), writer/director/perfomer Snow Zheng (郑雪) uses shadow puppetry to explore memory and relationships. She tells the story of her past, her father, and the journey of dual cultures in this play presented by Kung Fu Cowgirl. Told bilingually, it’s a rich tapestry of art and language, love and loss. Shot through it all is the light, a shining beacon of the hope that connects us all. – Cat McCarrey
