Austin changes fast, but some local favorites have been keeping the city weird for decades. Preservation Austin’s Legacy Business Month celebrates longtime locally owned businesses that have helped shape the city like Boggy Creek Farm, Callahan’s General Store, Casey’s New Orleans Snowballs, Coco’s Cafe, Elysium, Juan in a Million, Shenanigans Nightclub, Texas Chili Parlor, the Tavern, and Westgate Lanes. Grab a passport at McFarland-McBee House, Zilker Taproom, or Tomo Mags and spend October visiting participating spots, collecting stamps along the way while supporting the businesses that give Austin its character. You can also grab a passport at one of the highlighted spots. It’s part scavenger hunt, part local history lesson, and a good excuse to revisit an old favorite, or finally walk into that Austin institution you’ve passed a hundred times. – Erika Gonzalez
