Presented by Austin-based literary nonprofit American Short Fiction is this 2020 documentary exploring one of Venezuela’s most notable – and dangerous – locations: the Penitenciaría General de Venezuela, or PGV. An infamous gang-run prison “where the only guards stand outside,” this documentary digs into the prisoners’ lives and search for salvation under this Caracas penitentiary’s internal justice code. Shown in partnership with lit hub Alienated Majesty and festival Cine Las Americas, the screening also includes a post-film talk with the film’s director/writer Andrés Figueredo Thomson and author of recent novel Freedom Is a Feast Alejandro Puyana. – James Scott
