La Bohème

Austin Opera’s 40th anniversary season comes to a big finish with one of opera’s most beloved tragedies. If you’re new to La Bohème – or you only know it through the works it’s influenced, like Rent, Moulin Rouge!, and Moonstruck – you’re in for a real treat. It’s a swoony, doomy love story of bohemians living it up in 19th-century Paris until ... well, let’s just say the survival rate for tuberculosis in the 1830s wasn’t super-duper. The production stars tenor Joshua Blue as Rodolfo and soprano Brittany Olivia Logan as Mimi (Demetrious Sampson Jr. and Maria Brea sing the roles on Saturday); Austin native Eboni Adams makes her company debut as La Bohème director. – Kimberley Jones
