Knife in the Water (vinyl release)

Aaron Blount grew up hyperlocal, from the Armadillo World Headquarters to Scratch Acid. When his Knife in the Water emerged in 1998 on debut long-player Plays One Sound and Others, the quietcore quartet nestled easily amongst a movement both local and national, American Analog Set to Low, like a hazy IPA draft. Scraping Southwestern atmospherics alongside Calexico and Califone, the Austinites reemerged prior to the pandemic and now circle back with their best work on April’s Plays More Than One and Others, a chill maturity easing millennial tension. “I am shocked to discover that both Inner Sanctum AND Sound Exchange have permanently shuttered,” joked KITW on socials. “Maybe I should leave my vampire cave more often.” Free, 6-7pm. – Raoul Hernandez
