Between the Saxon Pub and Continental Club shuffles high-stakes poker that maintains “Live Music Capital” sovereignty residency by residency: “I’ll see your James McMurtry in the Gallery on Tuesdays with Shinyribs’ Kevin Russell on South Lamar Monday nights.” Saxon owner Joe Ables never said that to Continental king Steve Wertheimer, but the former’s hootenannies by Lonelyland and Resentments versus the latter’s legacy sit-ins from Church on Monday and Jon Dee Graham draw weekly – perennially. “House-party-meets-library,” these Monday “mercy” happy hours offer cocktails and “redemption,” with a Shinyrib or two, 6-7:30pm, $15.
