For all the true-crime devotees, Kate Winkler Dawson’s new book gets back to the case many believe inspired the first true-crime narrative. The case is of a 19th century woman found dead before word of her alleged affair with a Methodist minister came to light. Sound familiar? Well, this tale was the inspiration for The Scarlet Letter – which then inspired important cinematic canon entry Easy A. Dawson’s book explores the original case and the woman who wrote about it at the time, and at this event, the author and UT lecturer will discuss the book and the process of writing it.
