Even when Kat Edmonson was cutting her teeth in Austin’s jazz clubs in the Aughts, it was clear that her transcendent voice would lift her to greater heights. The Houston native’s luminously fay vocals mixed with a jazz and pop sophistication to produce breathlessly beautiful and evocative performances, but disarmed behind her charming playfulness. New York has provided Edmonson with more proper stages, including her recent theatrical turn, but the chanteuse’s annual return to Austin to serenade Valentine’s crowds brings her back home with a show full of memories and stories and new mesmerizing songs like “The Line.” – Doug Freeman
