I must admit to you, Reader, that when I watched Ju-On: The Curse – which is the pre-precursor to this film – it was the first live-action Japanese movie I ever saw. Thus, I thought the often confusing non-linear narrative was frying my noggin due to my ignorance about the country's cinema. Fancy my surprise when it turns out, uh, no! This particular disorienting storytelling style is unique to the Ju-On movies, carried from the first direct-to-video entries all the way through the Sarah Michelle Gellar-starring American remake by the same director, Takashi Shimizu. WLV screens what they say is considered the franchise’s most essential entry, though it follows the same formula as most Ju-On chapters with the central haunted house’s ghostly occupants terrorizing any person unlucky enough to have passed through their door. – James Scott
