In a moment of, perhaps, too much honesty, guest programmer and star of upcoming mockumentary The Moment Charli xcx says her reason behind choosing this Aughts satire is a little system shock: “In a time where it’s encouraged to unashamedly go and get the bag, this film is reminiscent of purer days when selling out was deemed lame and dishonest!” Utilizing the iconic characters of Hanna-Barbera’s Sixties kitty cat-themed girl band, Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan tell a tale of fun, friendship, and pop music turned sour by capitalism’s meddling. Featuring kooky appearances from Alan Cumming, Parker Posey, and the top-billed trio of Rachael Leigh Cook (Josie), Rosario Dawson (Val), and Tara Reid (Melody). “I’ve always loved it,” says Charli, “but I’ve also always loved a brand deal, so I probably would have been down for all the brainwashing.” Um… you go girl? – James Scott
