Coming up on a year now that accordion sovereign Leonardo “Flaco” Jiménez, 86, died in his hometown of San Antonio. Squeezebox squire Josh Baca, originally from Albuquerque alongside uncle Max Baca, famously lives in the Alamo City, where social media says he attended “Flaco Jiménez university.” A third-generation accordionist like Flaco – with whom he toured, recorded, and eventually joined in the Texas Tornados – Max leads two-time Grammy-winning Tex-Mex conjunto Los Texmaniacs alongside Josh. Quite the provenance, no? In other words, the Flaco Jiménez for a whole new generation of “Zydejunto/Mexicajun” enthusiasts goes by the name of contemporary fusionist Josh Baca. – Raoul Hernandez
