Joe "King" Carrasco y los Free Mexican Air Force, Hickoids
When: Thu., May 14, 8 p.m. 2026
This show marks the first time these opposite ends of early Eighties alternative Austin have shared a stage. Joe King Carrasco and his crackerjack outfit the Crowns were an international sensation, igniting a party wherever they played, fusing the Vox Continental organ-driven “She’s About a Mover” garage sound with motordrive Ramones punk grooves. And cowpunk kings the Hickoids – eternally led by Jeff Smith, the redneck Iggy Pop – have spent over four decades making a beautiful noise resembling a Hee Haw episode played loudly on a TV with a broken speaker. One-hundred percent of the door goes to Mission Aid for Ukraine and HopeFull. – Tim Stegall
