In 1990, Austin’s noise rock scene was a risky behemoth, and Crust embodied its most theatrical tentacle. Always pushing the inner ear to discomfort, Crust's raw, rhythmic parody of "family values" reminded that "Art" must confront the audience. John Hawkins and Richard Smith exuded volatility, while sweet, easygoing Jerry Page, steadily anchored the band’s sacred heart. SST Records producer Spot’s guidance immortalized Crust’s arch-weirdness worldwide. Today, Donnie Page’s curatorial work preserves the legacy of his dad, and this enormous memorial show, featuring Crust Jr., Rusted Shut, and others will echo beyond the future.
