Within My Maze of Memory by Isadora Jackson
Memory isn’t, as an old glamourpuss once sang, all alone in the moonlight. Rather, the experience of remembering is a calamitously collaborative one where bits and bobs sewn together from one’s own recollections join with dissimilar fragments remembered by others. It is into this chaos that artist Isadora Jackson invites viewers to explore the “maze” of memory’s many fractured pieces. Inspired by a discussion between Jackson and curator Leslie Moody Castro while both were in Mexico City, this construction within Co-Lab’s culvert gallery “becomes a metaphor for remembering: there is no complete view from one position, and no return to a memory exactly as it was.” – James Scott
