Insights: “Organizing ‘Women Who Wander’ in a Museum Named for a Man”
The current exhibition curated by the Umlauf’s own Dr. Katie Robinson Edwards features three women artists – Jennifer Ling Datchuk, Tammie Rubin, and Yoshie Sakai – exploring what home means in a world whose ideas of place keep shifting. This Wednesday, however, the museum asks visitors to consider more deeply the implications behind the show’s literal home, a museum whose title comes from late sculptor and UT-Austin prof Charles Umlauf. Exhibiting artist Rubin joins the conversation as well and offers insight into the ways Umlauf’s own process influenced her practices. – James Scott
