I recently read a great essay on author Lincoln Michel’s Counter Craft Substack that went into detail about trying to separate the consumption of visual media – which I reference here in regard to movies – with the prose-writing process. Switching one’s thoughts from the cinematic medium to the literary requires engagement with both art forms, not an imbalanced tilt toward silver screen stuff. Consider the Paper Cuts series a wonderful harmony, where this month’s selection puts director Marguerite Duras’ engrossing film India Song together with her book My Cinema.
