When the police asked Valerie Solanas why she shot Andy Warhol in 1968, she replied that she had “a lot of very involved reasons.” Director Mary Harron aimed to explore them after coming across Solanas’ SCUM Manifesto, which offers some clue as to why Solanas tried to kill the famous artist, but not finding much else about the attempted assassin. This newly restored biopic starring Lili Taylor (Mystic Pizza, The Conjuring) as Solanas and Jared Harris (Mad Men, The Crown) as Warhol resurfaces at a time when it might be understood better than it was upon its 1996 release, and its Sixties/Nineties soundtrack with gems by Jewel, John Cale, and Pavement makes it a must-see. – Kat McNevins
