Austin’s premier South Asian film festival, Indie Meme, screens this recent work from Vivek Chaudhary. Released in 2025, the observationally filmed feature follows an Indian poppy farmer and her activist son, whose lives come to a critical turning point when faced with a difficult choice: keep bribing officials for survival, or take a stand against corruption that could have major repercussions. Opening short film “Family Man” features a village affected by the recent Nepal floods, which pairs well with the night’s ticket price beneficiary – the Government of Nepal’s Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund. – James Scott
