Richard Linklater’s no stranger to an adaptation or two, but is this the first time his own film’s gotten an Indian interpretation? Presented by South Asian independent film festival Indie Meme, this is director Sudharshan Narayanan’s take on Linklater’s 2001 feature Tape. Three high school friends – here played by Amrita Bagchi, Aakash Prabhakar, and Nishank Verma – meet 10 years after their high school graduation only to face the aftermath of sexual misconduct that’s been simmering all the while. An exploration of “the thin lines between misogyny, sexual consent, and persuasion,” as Indie Meme writes, the Hindi-language film has its Texas premiere with English subtitles. – James Scott
