Lone Star imagery grows in tangled blossoms throughout Horsetail’s debut Four Horses EP, written largely in time spent away from the state and proving that age-old adage that, while you may take an artist out of Texas, yanking the Texas out isn’t quite so simple. Rerooted in Austin, songwriter Riley Hamilton illustrates thorny conundrums like the “Texas Bisexual Blues” and “Dollhouse” renters’ woes with clever candor, backed by imaginative indie rock sounds that mark this emerging act as one to grow with. – Caroline Drew
