His House

How much would you endure to have your own home? In British director Remi Weekes’ film, His House, Sudanese refugees Rial (Wunmi Mosaku) and Bol (Sope Dirisu) have endured the worst of human depravity and are not going to let racism or supernatural forces drive them off. The original ghost story by Toby Venables and Felicity Evans was inspired by a house near them that was falling into disrepair, failing in its duty to rapacious investors to turn them a profit, and so became a place to dump those on the fringes of society. A preview of Austin writer/director/actor Chinwe Okorie’s 2027 film series partnership Parallel Lens – which puts Austin’s film world talent in conversation with moviemakers the world over – the feature will be paired with Mexican filmmaker J. Manzo's new short, “The Evangelist.” Manzo will be in person to discuss the cultural specifics of horror with Okorie. – Richard Whittaker
